The Society of Computational Humanities Research (SCHR) is seeking a Communications Officer to join its board. This newly established role reflects the Society’s growth and its expanding need for clear, consistent outward communication. As Communications Officer, you will manage our social media channels, website, and mailing list, and support the board in keeping our internal documents and guidelines up to date. This is a remote volunteer position for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of extension for another year. The estimated workload for this role includes monthly board meetings, and an average commitment of approximately half a day of work per month, though this may vary throughout the year, with peaks around the annual CHR conference and major Society announcements.

Key responsibilities include:

• managing CHR’s online presence on social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Bluesky;
• keeping CHR’s websites up to date, in collaboration with the Local Organization of the annual conference;
• maintaining the CHR mailing list;
• drafting and coordinating outward-facing communications and announcements;
• supporting the board in keeping internal documents, policies, and guidelines current and accessible.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their academic career who enjoys writing, community engagement, and helping an organization present itself clearly and consistently. No prior board experience is required – enthusiasm, reliability, and an eye for clear communication matter most.

Eligibility

Applicants should be affiliated with a research institution at the time of application, or otherwise active in the Computational Humanities community.

Familiarity with Markdown and static-site tools like Hugo, or experience with social media management is a plus but not required.
